Welcome by the EFACIS president
Tá céad míle fáilte romhaibh go léir go dtí suíomh gréasáin EFACIS. Welcome to the new and improved website of EFACIS, the European Federation of Associations and Centres of Irish Studies.
EFACIS was founded in 1996 to promote interest in and support the expansion of Irish Studies throughout Europe. Our focus is the study and debate of all aspects of society, culture and literature of the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the Irish diaspora within the humanities and social sciences. EFACIS encourages as wide a range of organisations as possible to raise the profile of the subject area, to enhance the participation levels in Irish Studies and to further contacts between those involved in Irish Studies in the region.
We are dedicated to assisting those interested in Irish Studies, in all its forms and across the many disciplines that are now relevant to this area, including literature, language, theatre, history, politics, film, music, economics, sport and the media – and this list is by no means exhaustive. We provide a meeting point for academics and students, through our conferences, seminars, publications and website to share their work and encounter others engaged in similar research ad teaching.
On this website you will encounter, for example, our Map of Irish Studies in Europe which offers members a resource to identify relevant Irish Studies related courses and research across the continent. The development of this resource – and our website as a whole - depends on Irish studies scholars updating information which we can make available to members. Towards this, we have made our website more accessible, versatile and user-friendly than previously in the hope that this will encourage more people to input information. You will also find information on this homepage on how to access the website and update information, while information on joining EFACIS is also available here.
We hope that this will be but the first of many visits to our website and we look forward to meeting you at an EFACIS event in the near future!
Beir bua,
Seán Crosson,
President, EFACIS.
